Harry Kane is reportedly set to join Manchester City for a record-breaking GBP 160 million deal. The Tottenham Hotspur captain expressed his desire to leave at the end of last campaign after yet another trophyless season. Initially, Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy was adamant that the striker wouldn’t join the English rival but The Sun now claims that Levy has U-turned on his decision. If the reports are true then Kane will sign a four-year deal with the Etihad-based club.

Kane scored 23 goals in the Premier League last season to win the golden boot but Tottenham finished a lowly seventh in the points table. Spurs also lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Levy stated last month that ‘what other clubs want is not always possible to achieve’ while speaking to Tottenham’s official website on the topic of players who might be subject to bids in the transfer market this summer. But The Sun claims that last week Levy has changed his mind and allowed Kane to join City on a deal that will earn the player around GBP 400,000 per week. The report also says that the deal isn’t yet finalised and that it will be either for four or five seasons.

Meanwhile, reports last month suggested that Spurs rejected a GBP 100 million bid from the English champions and new boss Nuno Espirito was confident of keeping the English captain at the club.

New Tottenham director of football was also keen to build a team around Kane but the latest reports suggest that he will make a move to play under Pep Guardiola.

Will the move benefit Harry Kane?

Kane has been at Spurs since his youth days but his breakthrough season was in 2014-15 when he netted 21 times in the Premier League. And since then the 27-year-old hasn’t looked back, he has won the Premier League top scorer award three times including last year.

The English captain was phenomenal for the Three Lions this summer as he scored four goals and led his side to the final of Euro 2020 where they eventually lost to Italy on penalties.

His move to City means that he will join international teammates Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling, John Stones and Phil Foden. Meanwhile, Sterling is Kane’s strike partner in the national team and therefore they shouldn’t have any problem linking up front for City. Kane is now in the prime of his career and he hasn’t won any major trophies yet.

On the other hand, City are desperate to bring in a striker after Sergio Aguero’s departure and also the fact that Gabriel Jesus hasn’t yet established himself as a goal poacher.

If the Harry Kane deal works out it will be a new Premier League record, as of now, Manchester United paying GBP 89 million to bring in Paul Pogba from Juventus stands on top of the list.
