Even at this early in the season, Fantasy Premier League managers need to consider not just player rotation but also the possibility of players being suspended from their squads due to accumulated yellow cards. If a player receives five yellow cards in their team’s first 19 Premier League matches, they will have to sit out one game in the same competition. It’s important to note that these yellow cards do not carry over to the EFL Cup or FA Cup.

This season, Chelsea’s forward Nicolas Jackson is the first player to reach this suspension threshold, as he has received a yellow card in five out of the first six gameweeks. Meanwhile, his teammate Ben Chilwell is getting closer to the suspension, having received a yellow card in three consecutive matches. Additionally, the highly-owned Bruno Fernandes, who is on 19.7 percent of managers’ teams, has also collected three yellow cards.

Players who have a total of 10 yellow cards in Premier League matches will face a two-match suspension in the competition. In gameweek 7, Jackson will have to serve his suspension when Chelsea plays against Fulham, while Malo Gusto will also be out due to a red card he received for a serious foul in Chelsea’s loss to Aston Villa. Gusto’s three-match ban will result in him missing the EFL Cup third-round match against Brighton & Hove Albion and the gameweek 8 fixture against Burnley. It’s important to note that unlike yellow cards, red cards carry over to domestic cup competitions.

Rodri has begun a three-match ban following his expulsion for violent conduct in Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. This suspension will see him miss the gameweek 7 clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers and the meeting with Arsenal in gameweek 8. Additionally, he won’t be available for the EFL Cup third-round match against Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was the second player to receive a red card for violent conduct in gameweek 6. He was shown a red card during Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 1-1 draw with Luton Town. As a result, Bellegarde will be suspended for the EFL Cup match against Ipswich Town, as well as the home fixtures against Man City and Aston Villa in gameweeks 7 and 8, respectively.
