FC Goa boss Juan Ferrando was pleased with his team’s attitude of sticking with the same game plan even after going down by 0-1. Goa came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Hyderabad FC in the Indian super League (ISL) fixture at GMC Athletic Stadium on Saturday. Joel Chianese Put Hyderabad FC in front before Airam Cabrera equalized for FC Goa. The Gaurs are now unbeaten in three games and had their chances in the game but in the end had to share points.

Ferrando’s side has now won two of their last three games and are slowly moving up in the points table after a shaky start to the season.

Ferrando said after the match: ”When FC Goa don’t win, of course I don’t like it. Our target is to get three points every game.”

The match was an exciting end-to-end affair with both teams playing an attacking brand of football. Although Goa had the bulk share of ball possession and had their moments towards the end of the game to secure a winner, Hyderabad FC defence did a pretty decent job to deny them.

Goa’s midfielders Edu Bedia and Alberto Noguera controlled the game and were able to open up the opposition defense on a number of occasions, but Laxmikant Kattimani had a good day between the posts to avert the danger.

“The stats are just individual details. For me it’s more important if the team and the players are more comfortable on the pitch. They understand our plan and they work as per our plan and trust it. But whether we have success or not depends on the control of the technical decisions. But I’m happy that even after going 0-1 down we continued to work with the same plan” the Spanish tactician added.

Hyderabad’s attacks were mostly through the flanks as their wing backs Ashish Rai and Akash Mishra used their pace to good effect. Ashish was involved in Hyderabad’s opener as he played a delicate first-touch pass to release Nikhil Poojary down the right flank. The Indian raced to the byline before delivering a deep cross for Chianese to head home in the 54th minute. The lead lasted just 8 minutes as Cabrera equalized from close range.

Our target is the next game: Ferrando

Noguera played a brilliant through ball to release Devendra on the right, whose shot from a tight angle hit the post, but the rebound fell to Cabrera who slotted home from six yards out. Towards the end of the game, Kattimani made a superb reflex save to keep out Noguera’s effort from Seriton’s cross.

FC Goa will next take on Odisha FC in their next game at Tilak Maidan on Friday. They are now placed at the seventh spot with seven points from six games.

When asked about his team’s gradual rise in the points table, Ferrando said “Our target is the next game. It’s against Odisha FC next Friday and the most important thing is to be ready for the next game. This is more important than thinking about the table because our mentality now is just to get three points in the next match”
