West Ham United brought the season to an impressive conclusion after lifting a European trophy on Wednesday night. The Hammers left it late but got the job done through a Jarrod Bowen winner with very few minutes left to be played. That goal helped the club secure a first European trophy since 1965. Not many would have anticipated West Ham to clinch a European trophy at the start of the season. Their form in the Premier League neither gave confidence. However, the hammers maintained their consistency in the Europa Conference League, as they went all the way to lift the trophy.

Jarrod Bowen was understandably ecstatic after scoring the late winner for West Ham United against Fiorentina. “I obviously dreamed of scoring but to score the winner in the last minute… you always say you want to score a last-minute winner! To do it in front of these fans, I thought I was going to cry. I’m just so, so happy. I can’t put it into words. We had a dream, and we didn’t have the best season, but to do what we’ve done tonight for these fans…we see all the fans and, to give them this moment, I’m over the moon,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

Jarrod Bowen on his late winner

In the dying minutes of the game, Bowen got on the end of a Lucas Paqueta through ball to score the winner. Opening up about the goal, he said, “I’ve never had a feeling like this in my entire life. I said leading up to this that this was the biggest game in my entire career and the emotion. I thought it was going to go to extra time.”

“But there was time for one more chance and I’m just so happy. We won it for everyone. It means to much. In my position, you make that run ten times and you might get it once but the one time you get it you’ve got to put it away. I was confident and then I’ve seen it go in and then I just didn’t know what to do.”

David Moyes on final win

West Ham United David Moyes was over the moon after winning the Europa Conference League trophy in dramatic fashion. “This is fantastic. I’ve had a long career in football and you don’t get many moments like this but thankfully tonight we’ve got the result we’ve wanted. My Dad was here. I’ve just had a picture with him on the pitch and it was great. He’s still going strong and he wanted to come to the game,” he added.

Moyes explained how much this win means not only for him but also his family. “It’s a great moment to have your family at the game for. These moments, as a manager, they don’t come around too often. It means just as much to my dad as it does to me. The family, from when you’re a young boy, they support you in football. You don’t always get good moments in football but today is a great moment for us,” he stated.
