After an entire summer of international football, domestic leagues across Europe are beginning to commence. The world’s most popular domestic football league, the English Premier League, will also commence on Friday, with a number of mouth-watering fixtures in the opening week. The likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur have big opening matches this season and the weekend promises to be an absolute treat for the football lovers. It will be a long and dramatic fight to become champions of England as the top six sides in the division have all strengthened their squads in a bid to challenge for the prestigious title.

ARSENAL TO VISIT BRENTFORD

The action will start at the Brentford Community Stadium as Premier League new boys Brentford City host one of the greatest English clubs in their first match, Arsenal. For the Gunners, this season will be a fight to qualify for next season’s European competitions, preferably the UEFA Champions League. Mikel Arteta’s side had a horrid season last time around as they failed to qualify for any European competition. The Spaniard will be hoping to turn things around this season if he wants to save his job at the club.

THE PENNINES DERBY

The action then shifts to Old Trafford where Manchester United will host their arch-rivals Leeds United. The Red Devils will start the season on a high as they have an extremely competitive squad this time around. The likes of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Bruno Fernandes, and Mason Greenwood have more often than not performed for the club and will look to start the new season the same way. United have also signed Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane is expected to complete the formality any time now. However, it is not clear whether Sancho will be a part of Saturday’s line-up.

CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE HOST PALACE

The champions of Europe, Chelsea, will start the new season against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are one of the favorites to win the title. Thomas Tuchel has proved his worth as a top manager with the recent Champions League success, and the team has also signed their former striker, Romelu Lukaku. On paper, it looks like a comfortable victory, but the Blues will need to be at the top of their game on opening day.

LIVERPOOL OUT TO PROVE A POINT

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will face off against Norwich City at Carrow Road in their opening fixture. The Reds have a point to prove after an underwhelming 2020-21 season which saw them battle a number of injury issues. This time around, they have their squad fit and will look to make a strong start. The return of defender Virgil Van Djik will be a massive boost to Klopp as Liverpool will look to win their 20th league title.

CITY TO VISIT SPURS

The final action of the week will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, where the hosts will play against defending champions Manchester City. This is undoubtedly the biggest fixture of the week. It can also be a very interesting affair due to City’s reported attempts of signing Spurs striker Harry Kane. For Spurs, the objective is qualifying for the Champions League. City, however, are out to defend their crown. They have already signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa and they will be looking to stamp their authority all over the opening week.
