It has been an eventful 12 months for Manchester United and their supporters. The Red Devils enjoyed incredible highs and painful lows in that period. Most of their joy came in the second half of the 2022-23 season when United won the Carabao Cup, reached the FA Cup final and finished third in the Premier League. However, they have struggled to build on that momentum in the ongoing campaign, with the club massively underperforming till now.

Manchester United are already out of the Champions League in the group stage and are eliminated from the Carabao Cup too. Not to mention that their form in the Premier League is neither impressive, with United struggling to find any sort of consistency. Hence, it is safe to say that 2023 has been a rollercoaster ride for the club’s supporters.

Christian Eriksen’s best 2023 moment

Christian Eriksen, who joined Man United in the summer of 2022, has been an important part of Erik ten Hag’s system. His ability on the ball and passing skills have made Eriksen key to United’s build-up. With the new year beginning, Eriksen has looked back at the last 12 months and spoke about his best moment from that period. “I think for the club and the players [the highlight] was probably winning the Carabao Cup,” Eriksen was quoted as saying on the club’s website.

He added: “Obviously I didn’t play in the final, so for me the highlight was the semis [the two-legged win over Nottingham Forest]. Yeah, it’s been a rollercoaster. It’s been up and down. There’s been some really good moments. There’s been a trophy in between. There have been some good games, there have been some bad games. But generally and overall I’ve been very pleased and I’m very happy to be at United. It’s a lovely place. It’s a nice club and there are really nice people to work with and play alongside.”

Unlike earlier seasons, Man United have less games to play in January, thereby giving players a much-needed winter break. Keeping in mind the hectic schedule of a footballer, this will be a welcome break for plenty of footballers. Having said that Eriksen has just returned to action after spending time on the sidelines owing to an injury, hence the midfielder would prefer to play regularly. However, he agrees that for the whole squad this will be a good opportunity to take some rest. “I’ve just been injured and I missed the games, so for me it’s never a good time to have a holiday, but no obviously it will be good for the team,” he started.

The midfielder added: “And like I said, there’s been, especially last year, so many games and at the start of the season there were a lot of games, not only for us, but I think for everyone. It’s a healthy way of having a bit of a break and recharge and then be ready to go again. I think I’m more, in terms of football, taking one game at a time, trying to do the best we can do at the present [time]. Then I have to see what happens after. But yes, take it one game at a time, but hopefully in the end it will finish on a strong note.”
