Manchester United supporters have every reason to be optimistic about the future of promising youngster Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentinian might just be 19 years of age but he has already become an important part of Eric ten Hag’s setup. Garnacho is often used as a substitute and has performed incredibly well whenever he has come on from the bench. There was one crucial game at the end of last season when the youngster came as a substitute to seal the three points for the Red Devils.

During a must-win Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Erik ten Hag brought on Alejandro Garnacho from the bench. After being released by Bruno Fernandes, Garnacho went one-on-one with the Wolves’ goalkeeper and calmly slotted the ball past him to secure the victory. Former Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia was in attendance at Old Trafford that day. Valencia understandably liked the impact he had on that game.

Antonio Valencia on Alejandro Garnacho

“Garnacho has raised his level. He gets better every day. I like him, and the fans want to see him play. Everybody wanted to see him come on [against Wolves at the end of last season]. We knew he was coming off the back of an injury, but he entered the game really well. He took the pitch with a lot of an energy. He changed the face of the match, because he came on to cause pressure, and that’s what the team needed,” Valencia told club media.

He added: “They needed somebody with that energy to come on, to press high up on the pitch with the idea of scoring and assisting,” added the former Ecuador international, who retired in May 2021. So he changed the face of the match. I like how he came on. So, being a fan of the club, I was very happy to see him on the pitch. Let’s hope he’s back at that level soon and can play some incredible games, because we need him.”

‘I’m convinced that the team will respond well’

Valencia then shifted the attention to the whole Manchester United side and is convinced that the team will do well. “Well, the league just started. We’re only four games in. So the new players that just arrived are getting adapted and acclimated to a new system. Sometimes, that can be complicated. For some players, it’s harder, but I hope they can get adapted as soon as possible for the good of the team,” he told the club’s Spanish-language website.

He added: “There are many competitions, but I’m convinced that the team will respond well because we have a lot of great players. They’ve already shown that in the past. So I don’t think there will be any problems. Hopefully, we can win the Premier League this year and I hope we don’t lose too much ground on Manchester City or any of the other clubs at the top of the table. We have play as equals against everybody and try to gain an advantage.”
