The Saudi Pro League match between Abha and Al Hilal will take place at Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Stadium on Monday at 8:30 pm IST.
Al-Hilal is gearing up to commence the 2023-24 Saudi Pro League season on a positive note as they face Abha at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium on Monday. Abha, the hosts, enter the game after a preseason friendly where they tied 1-1 with Iran’s Sepahan SC. Meanwhile, Al-Hilal, the visitors, encountered a setback in the Arab Club Champions Cup final, losing 2-1.
Abha endured a lackluster previous season, finishing a disappointing 12th, three places lower than the prior year. After this underwhelming performance, they replaced their former manager and appointed Czeslaw Michniewicz in June. Unfortunately, Michniewicz’s impact was limited, with the team losing five out of seven matches under his leadership. Abha accumulated 35 points throughout the season, just two more than relegated Al-Faisaly, securing nine wins, eight draws, and suffering 13 losses in 30 matches. Notably, their home ground proved more favorable, with seven out of their nine victories occurring there. Despite this, they face a formidable opponent in Al-Hilal, a consistent top-three team.
Although finishing in third place, Al-Hilal considered the past season a major letdown as they had to surrender the league championship after holding it for three years in a row. Under Jorge Jesus’s leadership, the team accumulated 59 points from 30 matches, eight less than their previous total. Their record included 17 victories, eight draws, and five losses, with 54 goals scored and 29 conceded. Despite initially competing closely with Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr for the title, a three-game winless streak in April derailed their chances. Participating in the Arab Club Champions Cup, they rebounded from an initial loss with three wins, but were defeated by Al-Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo’s extra-time goal.
Abha probable starting lineup: Epassy, Al Oufi, Noguera, Natiq, Al Qumayzi, Kamano, Krychowiak, Bguir, Al Sadi, Al Jumaiya, Caicedo
Al-Hilal probable starting lineup: Al Owais, Abdulhamid, Koulibaly, Al Bulaihi, Al Obaid, Kanno, Neves, Michael, Milinkovic-Savic, Al Dawsari, Malcom
