In my experience playing Dragon’s Dogma 2 a lot, I have noticed that finding the right weapons and armor while exploring doesn’t happen often, especially ones that match your character’s job. Instead, most of the gear you need can be bought from different shops all over the game world.
If you are looking for special gear Vernworth is the place to go, especially in the early and middle parts of the game. In the Merchant Quarter, which is on the north side of the square, there are three important shops: one for weapons, one for armor and one for potions. They are all lined up neatly so it is easy to find what you need.
While some merchants might sell a mix of things like crafting materials, potions, armor and occasional weapons, these things usually aren’t very strong.

I suggest you focus on getting decent armor and weapons early in the game, even if they are not the best. As you keep playing, you will come across better gear naturally. I strongly recommend buying equipment from vendors in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The stuff they sell is much better than what you might find randomly while playing.
If you want more weapons and armor, I suggest explore caves. These underground mazes usually have secret treasures, like really good weapons and pieces of armor.
