Umamusume: Pretty Derby’s pilot episode provides a strong start for the ONA series. Top Road, Ayabe, and Opera, three horse girls featured in the program, each having distinct personalities and designs. The show also benefits from a new trainer and racing commentator who bring new perspectives. The art style and race-related images have improved substantially, and the animation is fantastic.
The episode’s exceptional character writing and attention to detail are just a few of its many noteworthy features. The episode also provides fascinating world-building, including views of elderly horsewomen and the potential for human fathers for horse girls.
