Prominent Chinese Dota 2 team Team Aster has made a major lineup overhaul in anticipation of ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023. The departure of important players Du “Monet” Peng, Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan, Lin “Xxs” Jing, and Hu “Kaka” Liangzhi—all of whom are well-known in their respective positions one through four—represents a calculated strategic move. A new chapter in the history of Team Aster has begun with the appointment of new talent to the vacant posts. Notably, Yu “Siamese.C” Yajun continues to hold the stable number-five spot on the roster. In contrast, Monet has already secured a new residence with Invictus Gaming for the forthcoming season. Team Aster’s Dota 2 Roster Revamp: New Faces for ESL Kuala Lumpur

Not too long after the four veteran players’ departures were announced, another tweet was released with the new roster. Team Aster also announced that Xie “Super” Junhao would take over as the team’s new coach in addition to the player changes.

A week ago, Monet’s resignation was apparent as he was removed from Aster’s roster on Valve’s Dota 2 Majors Registration Page. SumaiL, Xxs, and Kaka’s departures represent a notable change. Team Aster is changing its team from one that was primarily made up of well-known players from the Chinese competition scene to one that is full of fresh talent. Frisk is the only veteran player among the rookies; he was a member of Vici Gaming from 2018 to 2019. After that, he looked into joining different teams, but he had trouble building on his prior achievements.

Erika played for Vici Gaming from 2020 to 2023, during which time he became well-known in the Chinese scene as a carry player. He did not perform as well towards the end of this stint, though. Conversely, ss and echo are relatively unknown players who began their careers in 2019 and are now getting their first opportunity to play for a tier one squad.

New Players, New Dynamics

The focus now shifts to how this revitalised club will perform in an area where well-known teams are anticipated to be tough rivals. Super becomes a vital figure in the scene, bringing with him coaching knowledge from his days with Royal Never Give Up as well as his achievements as a player. On the other hand, SumaiL is ready to investigate prospects in Europe, but Xxs and Kaka’s fates are still unknown. The way Team Aster’s new squad has developed suggests a fascinating story for the forthcoming competitive season.
