Picking up right where we left off in episode 3, Kafka informs Hoshina that he has no intention of quitting in episode 4 of Kaiju No. 8. Kafka gets to his feet, and Reno assures him that he’ll be there for him. Kafka climbs atop Reno’s back. In addition, he expresses his desire to back Kikoru by asking Reno to follow her. At the same time, Hoshina finds it amusing that Kafka and Reno are using this ridiculous strategy of combining their teams.

Without the help of Reno and Kafka, Kikoru manages to vanquish the remaining monsters on the battlefield all at once. Once this portion of the test is over, someone from the testing staff will let each participant know. The exam organizers also intend to dispatch medical staff to assist any injured test takers. Mina and Hoshina return to the observation room to compliment Kikoru on his abilities.
Also, Kikoru is the daughter of the head of the defense force, as we find out later. Kikoru is hoping that her performance on the battlefield will be enough to win over her father. Just as she is about to celebrate her triumph with Kafka, a lone monster shows up and assaults Kikoru. At the same time, Kafka and the others see the kaiju and yoju that have died healing close by.
Kikoru insists she can still fight, even though the hapless kaiju caught her off guard. Speaking, the kaiju causes Kikoru to become perplexed. The talkative kaiju intends to facilitate another battle between Kikoru and his yoju allies. The chatty monster stuns Kikoru with a barrage of bizarre missiles. Exam officials notify Hoshina and Mina of the peculiar occurrences on the exam grounds at the same time.
With a command to activate the recuperation shields, Mina instructs the workers to dispatch the drones to the testing grounds and provides her with a camera feed. Plus, she specifically requests that Hoshina accompany her to the testing grounds. At the same time, a siren goes off across the testing grounds, telling all test takers to go to the closest safe haven.
