The much anticipated duelist, Iso, has joined the Valorant lineup and will make its debut today. After several days of experiencing Iso’s gameplay both as and against this agent, it is evident that Iso has the potential to become one of the most vexing agents in the game. Iso’s ‘Kill Contract’: A Game-Changer in Valorant’s Duel Arena

Iso, a duelist, is a cause of consternation for players who value partnership above solitary endeavours. Duelists in Valorant can be a mixed bag; although agents like as Jett and Phoenix contribute favourably to their teams, others such as Reyna frequently focus purely on hunting for eliminations. Iso appears to fall squarely into the latter category.

Self-Centered Approach

Despite Iso’s kit appearing, on paper, to offer some utility for the team, it largely revolves around securing kills. While Iso’s Contingency ability provides mobile cover, it is primarily used to gain an advantage in firefights. His Undercut ability, which weakens opponents, is rarely employed for team support.

However, what truly irks me about Iso are his remaining two abilities. In a tactical shooter like Valorant, exclusive shields can be highly disruptive, especially given the game’s one-shot potential. As a less skilled player who struggles with spray control, I often rely on landing precise headshots. But when facing Iso, my effectiveness is significantly diminished unless I’m the first to engage.

Iso’s Double Tap ability grants him a temporary shield whenever he eliminates an enemy or assists in doing so. While this isn’t automatic, a proficient player can swiftly obtain a shield that absorbs one instance of damage. In multiple games, I encountered situations where I attempted to capitalize on a weakened Iso after hearing an enemy’s demise, only to find my perfectly aimed headshot futile. This granted Iso ample time to retaliate and eliminate me.

Unfair Advantage in Gunfights

If this were an occasional occurrence, I might endure it, but during a single match, it transpired three times. In at least two of those instances, I’m convinced my headshots were blocked. Abilities that introduce new dynamics to the game are acceptable, but this gives Iso an unjust advantage in gunfights, which should not be the case in a game where precision is paramount.

The Overpowered Ultimate: Kill Contract

Iso’s ultimate, “Kill Contract,” is a visually stunning ability that forces Iso and the first struck enemy into a one-on-one battle to the death. While it appears visually impressive, it can prove to be excessively powerful in certain scenarios. Valorant’s maps often require defenders to guard multiple areas, including the standard spike sites. Consequently, a solitary defender might need to protect an area. If Iso activates his ultimate, he can confidently send it towards an area he anticipates an enemy, making that area secure for his team to traverse while he engages in the duel. Even if Iso loses, the solo defender is likely to return to a horde of adversaries who have infiltrated the area they were meant to secure, with minimal chances of survival.

In summary, facing Iso can be a frustrating experience, and unless you’re solely focused on precise aiming and dueling, playing as Iso might not be as enjoyable. Undoubtedly, many players who relish a more run-and-gun style like Call of Duty will find him appealing. However, this preference may come at the expense of teammates who prefer the tactical, team-based nature of Valorant.

With Iso’s launch as part of the new Act, I may choose to steer clear of Valorant for a while, waiting for the initial excitement to wane and for him to become less prevalent in every game. The upcoming weeks could potentially offer more frustration than fun for those who value team coordination and strategy in Valorant.
