Final Fantasy 14 Cross-Region Data Center Travel Major Details

Final Fantasy 14 is ready to make its first steps towards cross-region data centre travel in response to the community’s ongoing requests. According to Square Enix, the trial will start on Sunday, March 24 at 11:00 PM Eastern Time and end in the summer when Dawntrail’s server maintenance begins.

But only players from North America, Europe and Japan will be able to take part in the experiment; the Oceanic region’s Materia Data Centre will be the chosen location for testing the new features and managing group activities between regions. The five domains that make up the Materia Data Centre at the moment are Bismark, Ravana, Sephirot, Sophia and Zurvan.

  • Starting on March 24 at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday.
  • ends with the start of Dawntrail server maintenance.
  • Data centres in North America, Europe, and Japan are reachable by gamers.
  • Five servers are available in the Materia Data Centre, which is the destination server.

According to Square Enix, this experiment is in line with their promise to make Dawntrail’s launch go more smoothly than Endwalker’s. It is predicted that the introduction of Cross-region Data Centre Travel will help with data collection and maybe reduce wait times during expansion launches. Throughout the trial period Square Enix has actively encouraged community feedback and engagement acknowledging that gamers connected to the Materia Data Centre from faraway continents may have latency concerns.

Cross-region Data Center Travel Insights

The Data Centre Travel system was first introduced in Final Fantasy 14 Patch 6.18 and allowed players to travel between data centres located on the same region. As an example players on the Aether Data Centre could travel at will to and from the Primal, Crystal and Dynamis Data Centres, which are all in North America.

Producer and director of Final Fantasy 14, Naoki Yoshida hesitated because of language and social difficulties even though technology existed to enable Cross-region Data Centre Travel. As a result Data Centre Travel did not begin with the game until the Endwalker expansion.

Starting at the same time as Final Fantasy 14’s PAX East panel on Dawntrail the Cross-region Data Centre Travel trial provides players with an extra channel for excitement and involvement in the run-up to the expansion’s release.
