He reveals that a public safety experiment involving 30 prisoners who contracted with the future devil and asked for their date of death resulted in 23 of them receiving the same answer – they would die in July 1999. This leads to the suspicion that the prisoners’ actions may be connected to the prophecy, and Yoshida is there to question Fami about it.
Fami cryptically informs Yoshida that seven other prisoners will die that week, and mentions the appearance of a new devil who will “drag the world into the abyss of terror.” Just as she is about to reveal the devil’s name, the scene cuts to Yoru/Asa observing the sudden and inexplicable suicides of several Japanese citizens. Yoru summons a “Ruler Sword” to fight, but is overcome with fear and decides to retreat instead. As Yoru flees, a mysterious entity emerges from the pile of corpses, and the chapter ends with the revelation that even Yoru, the Justice Devil, is afraid of this new devil.
While the identity of the new devil remains a mystery, its fearsome reputation and the reactions of other devils indicate that it may be the Death Devil, the fourth of the Four Horsemen.
