Review

The episode did an excellent job overall, and I appreciated how it occasionally centered on Bi Hei and the other supporting characters in the Hi Shin Unit. His treatment of Shin in the past was less than stellar, and he lacks Shin’s requisite qualities of strength, intelligence, and bravery.

He is merely an ordinary man. However, as Bi Hei spent more time with Shin, he saw how much Shin had grown and how his actions and behaviors had an impact on everyone involved, including him. They went from being a small, 5-man foot soldier unit to a much larger and respected unit.

Bi Hei was rightfully punished by Shin and Kyou Kai for his foolish decision to retain the bracelet that had been taken from the bodies of several victims of the destroyed villages. But when he heard that the bandits from Kan Ki’s army were making fun of him and Shin in particular for being a weak leader who wouldn’t rape, murder, or torture his enemies so they could enjoy the “spoils of the battle,” he began to appreciate Shin’s leadership qualities and the fact that his unit’s members were proud to be a part of it, rather than having to resort to dirty, desperate means to satisfy their desires.

Shin wanted to be the Greatest General, and they were proud of themselves and wanted to assist him get there. The fact that the bandits continue to support Kan Ki and the people continue to joyfully follow Shin are examples of the profound impact that a leader can have on their followers.
