Premier League action will return this weekend with matchday 26 of 38 scheduled to begin with West Ham hosting Newcastle United, top four contenders Arsenal playing Brentford at home, Brighton taking on Burnley, Liverpool against Norwich City, Southampton vs Everton, Aston Villa host Watford, Crystal Palace crossing swords with Chelsea and league leaders Manchester City hosting Tottenham Hotspur in the most anticipated contest on Saturday. Meanwhile, on Sunday, Manchester United will travel to face Leeds United while Wolves will welcome Leicester City on their turf.

And as we head towards another action filled weekend of bookings, goal-scoring, brilliant saves and duels won over, let us have a look at the potentially most-anticipated matches of the week in English football.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

League leaders Manchester City will be returning to Premier League action after thrashing Sporting Lisbon 5-0 in the first leg of the Round of 16 Champions League fixture. The match proved enough evidence that their in-form forward Bernardo Silva is hungry for more apart from Riyad Maharez, Raheem Sterling and young Phil Foden among the players to rely on. A win for the Pep Guardiola-managed side at the Etihad Stadium could simply mean that they further cement their spot for another title win in the Premier League.

Antonio Conte-managed Spurs will have their task cut out after losing their previous fixture against Wolves. It will be a test of nerves and grit apart from their defensive and bounce back capabilities on Saturday.

West Ham vs Newcastle United

David Moyes can take a lot of heart out of the way he has turned things around for West Ham who are set to host Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in the next Premier League fixture. The Hammers are unbeaten in their last three fixtures across competitions and will look to add on to their tally against Newcastle United who will have a potential threat in their forward Allan Saint-Maximin.

A win could also mean that the Hammers will remain intact in the race for a dream top four finish as they are just two points behind English football giants and the stumbling Manchester United.

Manchester United vs Leeds United

Manchester United’s Portuguese stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes scored brilliant goals in their win against Brighton in the last Premier League fixture and will be expected to produce something similar against Leeds United on Sunday. However, the 10-man Brighton, highlighted the defensive inefficiency from the Ralf Rangnik-managed side as they controlled a large part of the possession in the dying minutes. Tactical genius Marcelo Bielsa will be expected to test Manchester United with his inputs for the team as one can assume the fixture to remain tightly contested.
