Leicester City were held to a 2-2 draw by West Ham United in the Premier League fixture at King Power Stadium on Sunday. Jarrod Bowen’s early strike gave West Ham the lead before Youri Tielemans converted a spot-kick to level the score. Three minutes before the hour-mark, Leicester put their nose in front courtesy of Ricardo Pereira’s goal. The hosts looked well on their way to their first win since December 28, but Craig Dawson netted in the first minute of stoppage-time to rescue a point for the Hammers.

West Ham made a dream start to the game as they put their nose in front inside the opening 10 minutes. Issa Diop played a brilliant long overhead ball from the back to release Bowen on goal. The 25-year-old Englishman took one touch and struck the ball cleanly past Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel into the net.

The visitors looked in control until a moment of carelessness from Aaron Cresswell gifted Foxes a route back into the game as he inexplicably handled a James Maddison corner inside the box. Tielemans stepped up and converted the spot-kick to make the score 1-1 on the stroke of half-time.

After the break, Leicester looked more desperate to get the goal. Most of their attacks were down the left flank through Harvey Barnes, who was having an excellent game. The winger had got the better of Vladimir Coufal , but his low cross just evaded the onrushing Patson Daka at the far post.

However, in the 57th minute Barnes’ cross was headed home by Ricardo to complete the turnaround for Brendan Rodgers’ side. Few moments later, Barnes once again got past Coufal before cutting the ball back for Tielemans on the edge of the box, but the Belgian midfielder’s shot went over the bar.

Dawson’s equaliser

The hosts looked to be seeing the game out comfortably, with Schmeichel not really tested. But Corners have been Leicester’s Achilles heel all season, and  West Ham made the score 2-2 in the stoppage time from a corner as Dawson forced the ball in off his shoulder.

Leicester players protested that it came off Dawson’s arm, but replays showed it was off the top of his sleeve and the goal was given, with VAR saying there was not enough evidence to overturn it.

The result left Leicester at the 11th spot with 27 points from 22 games, while West Ham sit in the fourth with 41 points from 25 games, having played more games than the teams directly behind them.
