“It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing. Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game,” Ronaldo wrote on his Instagram.

“I would like to apologize for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair-play and sportsmanship.”

Meanwhile the police are investigating the incident and the force in Liverpool is appealing for witnesses after footage was posted on social media.

“As players were leaving the pitch at 2:30 p.m., it was reported that a boy was assaulted by one of the away team as they left the pitch,” Merseyside Police said Sunday.

“Inquiries are under way and officers are currently working with Everton Football Club to review CCTV (video) footage and are carrying out extensive witness enquiries to establish if an offence has taken place.”

Miserable night for United and Ronaldo

The Red Devils fell to seventh in the league standings after the Everton defeat and find themselves six points adrift of the top-four. Anthony Gordon’s first half strike was enough to hand United their second defeat in four league games.

It was a miserable night for Ronaldo and the rest of the team as they failed to break through the Everton defence, despite having close to 70 percent ball possession and creating 12 chances.

Ronaldo was a frustrated figure up front as his team mates failed to provide quality balls to him and the 37-year-old often had to drop back to get involved in the game. Meanwhile it was a crucial victory for the Toffees who are battling relegation. United will next host Norwich on Saturday before traveling to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
