Washington Sundar is an international cricketer who plays for India in all formats of the game. Born on October 5th 1999, Sundar started playing cricket at a young age. Much like R Ashwin‘s career, he went from being a batsman to making a name for himself as a right-arm offspinner. He started playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in 2017 and now plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Sundar was selected as a replacement for R Ashwin by RPS in 2017. He performed well in his IPL debut season and has the best figures for any bowler in an IPL final after taking three wickets for 16 runs. He was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the following year. In 2022, Sundar was drafted into SRH.

He made his ODI debut for India against Sri Lanka on 13th December 2017. Sundar made his T20I debut on 24th December against Sri Lanka. Aged 18 years and 80 days, he became the youngest player to debut for India in T20Is. In March 2018, he was selected as the player of the tournament for his performance in the tri-nation T20I series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Sundar, who was initially chosen as a net bowler for India’s tour of Australia 2020-21. made his Test debut in the final match at Gabba after the Indian squad was hit by several injuries. He played a key role in India’s eventual victory in this Test match.
