Shreyas Iyer is a right-handed middle-order batsman who plays for India in all three formats of the game. He was born on 6th December 1994 to a Keralite father and Mangalorean mother. An attacking batsman with an impressive track record, Iyer is regarded as one of the brightest talents in the current Indian roster. He captains Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His strokeplay, fearless and dominant approach to batting made him a favourite among the fans of Indian cricket. Iyer displayed top-class batting in domestic cricket between 2014 and 2016. Following his performances, IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils signed him in 2015 for Rs 2.6 crores, which was the highest amount for an uncapped player. After consistent knocks, he was named the Emerging Player in IPL that season. Iyer was retained by the Delhi side in 2018 and was named the team’s captain in April 2018. His stint with Delhi was impressive, both as a captain and player. He led the team into playoffs in the IPL 2019-the first in seven years. Iyer continued to deliver in the IPL 2020 season too, as he led the franchise to their maiden IPL final that year.
At the IPL 2022 auction, Kolkata Knight Riders signed Iyer and named him the team’s skipper.
Iyer made his T20I debut for India against New Zealand in 2017. In the same year, he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka. In 2019, Iyer scored 31 runs in one over in the ODI against West Indies, thus becoming the Indian batsman to score most runs in a single over in ODIs. He made his Test debut for India in 2021 against New Zealand and scored a century in the match.
