Wayne Parnell is a professional cricketer, who plays for South African cricket team Internationally. In English county cricket, Wayne plays for Northamptonshire. He has represented the South African cricket team in all the three formats of the game. He was born on 30 July, 1989 in Port Elizabeth, Cape Province, South Africa. He is a left arm medium pace bowler who can change the tide of the game with his wicket taking abilities. In domestic cricket Wayne has played for the Warriors and Cape Cobras. He did his schooling from the Grey High School, which is his hometown. He left his hometown in 2007 and further continued his studies in human resource management.

It was in October 2006, when Wayne played his first class debut match for Eastern Province against South Western Districts at the age of 17. In his 2nd first class match, he took 4 wickets and gave just 7 runs. Soon later, Wayne took the hat-trick in first class cricket. Right after the start of 2009 county cricket season, Wayne was signed by Kent County Cricket Club in replacement of Stuart Clark for 6 weeks. He played his debut county match against Essex, where he took 4 wickets for 78 runs and scored 69 runs in the second innings. Wayne became part of the South Africa’s team that played in the 2009 T20 World Cup. He left Kent to participate in the world cup and once the tournament got over, he returned to county cricket.

Wayne suffered setbacks due to injuries and bad form, for quite a long time after that, but he continued to play and represented multiple domestic teams. In 2011, he played for Sussex and in 2015, he played for Glamorgan in county cricket. Wayne’s first Indian Premier League (IPL) team was Delhi Daredevils. He was the third highest paid South African cricketer for that season. However, he did not play any matches that season. In 2011 and 2013, he played for Pune Warriors. He returned to Delhi Daredevils in the 2014 season of IPL. Currently he’s playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, as he was bought by them in 2023 IPL auctions.

Wayne was the leading wicket taking bowler as a captain of the SA’s under 19 team in 2008 world cup. He took 18 wickets in the tournament, including 6 wickets against Bangladesh in the quarter finals. It was on 13 January 2009, when he played his T20 International debut match for SA against Australia. He was the youngest South African player to get a national contract. He was included in the 2009 South African team that played in the T20 world cup. He had an outstanding performance throughout the tournament. He was included in the world team of the tournament due to his performance. Later in 2011 Champions Trophy, he became the highest wicket taking bowler with 11 wickets in the tournament.
