Najmul Hossain Shanto is a young cricketer from Bangladesh. Shanto is from Rajshahi’s Ranhat region in Bangladesh. He began his cricket career at the Clemon Rajshahi Cricket Academy.  The academy was over 20 kilometers away from his house, he used to cover that distance via cycle to reach there every day. He, after Sabbir Rahman, is the second Bangladeshi batsman to score a century in domestic Twenty20s. He was selected to Bangladesh’s Under-19 Cricket squad for the World Cup in December 2015. He was also selected for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and scored the highest runs for the Bangladesh cricket team. He scored 180 runs in matches with an average of 36.

In the Bangladesh Premier League, on November 8, 2016, Najmul Hossain Shanto made his Twenty20 (T20) debut for Comilla Victorians. In December 2017, when playing for Rajshahi Division against Dhaka Metropolis in the 2017-18 National Cricket League, he and Mizanur Rahman scored 341 runs. This was the best opening partnership in a domestic first-class match in Bangladesh. He scored  749 runs in 16 matches and became the highest run-scorer in the 2017-18 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. He was appointed to the Khulna Tigers squad in October 2018, after the drafting for the 2018-19 Bangladesh Premier League. He was one of 35 cricketers selected to a training camp ahead of Bangladesh’s 2019-20 season in August 2019. Najmul also hit a century for Minister Group Rajshahi against Fortune Barishal on December 8, 2020, in the 2020-21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup.

He was selected to a 22-man preliminary team to train in Australia ahead of Bangladesh’s travel to New Zealand in November 2016. He was added to Bangladesh’s Test team in January 2017 ahead of the second Test against New Zealand. He made his Test debut against New Zealand in the second Test on January 20, 2017. In August 2018, he was one of twelve debutants included to Bangladesh’s preliminary roster of 31 players for the 2018 Asia Cup. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Bangladesh against Afghanistan on September 20, 2018.He was selected captain of Bangladesh’s side for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in November 2019. In same month, for the first time in Shanto’s career, he was appointed captain of Bangladesh’s side for the 2019 South Asian Games men’s cricket event. Bangladesh secured the first place and won by seven wickets after defeating Sri Lanka. In the first innings of the two-match series against Sri Lanka in April 2021, he earned his maiden century in Test cricket, with 163 runs. 

Najmul Hossain Shanto has played a total of 58 international matches, including test matches, One day internationals and T20 internationals. He has scored two test hundreds in his career till now. Shanto is also a part time off break bowler. Currently he was picked by the defending champions Comilla Victorians for the fourth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
