Mitchell Santner is a professional New Zealand cricketer. He plays the role of a left-arm spinner and a left-handed batter. He represents the national team in all the formats and has also led the white ball unit on a few occasions. Santner started his career playing domestic cricket for the Northern Districts. After a brilliant 2014–15 domestic season, Santner was handed his One Day International debut after the retirement of New Zealand spin bowling legend, Daniel Vettori. The all-rounder made his ODI debut against England. In the same year, Santner got a chance to make his Test debut against Australia in a Day/ Night Test match.

A run of impressive performances in the limited-over format, he was included in New Zealand’s T20I squad for the 2016 World Cup. He scalped 10 wickets and was named in the ICC Team of the Tournament for his impressive bowling under difficult circumstances. In the 2019 IPL auction, Mitchell Santner was bagged by the Chennai Super Kings for INR 50 lakhs and has been a valuable player for them over the years. Santner was out of the team after suffering a knee injury that kept him out of the game for close to a year. After completing his rehabilitation, Santner made his international return in 2018. He got a surprise call-up to the Black Caps squad for the 2019 World Cup but failed to impress.

Post the 2019 World Cup, Santner has been in and out of the team, mainly due to poor form and the emergence of Tod Astle.
