Renowned Indian cricket figure Sunil Gavaskar criticized Rohit Sharma and the Indian team for their lackluster start on Day 3 of the initial Test match against South Africa in Centurion. Gavaskar expressed disappointment with India’s approach, deeming it ‘listless’ as Dean Elgar and Marco Jansen faced minimal challenges from the Indian bowlers. Fielding errors further compounded India’s woes, providing easy runs for the Proteas. Gavaskar emphasized the need for heightened energy levels at the beginning of the day’s play.

India got off to a poor start in the morning session on Day 3, attacking fields were set and the players also looks slightly lazy. “India needs to wake up. They’ve been listless till now. They should be full of energy at the start of the day, but they’ve been all over the place. Listless stuff. At tea, maybe the spirits can be down. Not at the start of the day,” remarked Sunil Gavaskar on commentary on Day 2 of the 1st Test between India and South Africa at the Centurion.

Fielding blunders by Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Siraj resulted in conceded runs, and KL Rahul failed to secure an inside edge from Jansen. By lunch on Day 3, South Africa had reached 392 for 7 in response to India’s 245 all-out in the opening Test. Opener Dean Elgar (185) and Gerald Coetzee (19) were the morning session dismissals, contributing to the hosts’ lead of 147 runs. During the Lunch Break, Marco Jansen (72) and Kagiso Rabada (1) were at the crease.
