The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen 13 editions been played. There has been a total of six champions in the IPL. Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians are the teams that have won the coveted title. By winning the IPL, these teams have already sealed their claim to fame. However, when it comes to impact and consistency, some teams have raised the bar. Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the title only once while Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have won the title more than once.

So, when one looks at Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, which team is dangerous? On the basis of pure numbers, Mumbai Indians should be considered the most dangerous side of the IPL. They have won five IPL titles, which is more than the combined number of titles won by Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Mumbai Indians have won the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and in 2020. Kolkata Knight Riders have won the title in 2012 and 2014 while Chennai Super Kings have won in 2010, 2011 and 2018. In the last seven editions of the IPL, Mumbai Indians have won five times and there seems to be no stopping their dominance.

Greater dominance

Mumbai Indians have an even or better head-to-head record against all teams in the IPL. The exception IS against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mumbai Indians have a 18-12 record against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. Against Kolkata Knight Riders, their record in 27 games is a staggering 21-6.

The current Mumbai Indians line-up is simply intimidating. Rohit Sharma is in the list for the top run-getters in the IPL. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan both scored over 400 runs in IPL 2020. Quinton de Kock is an aggressive wicketkeeper-batsman. The Pandya brothers (Hardik and Krunal), in addition to Kieron Pollard, make their batting core one of the best in the business.

ALL-STAR DEPTH

With Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, the bowling is in good hands. It was Bumrah and Boult who delivered the goods regularly in IPL 2020 and struck at regular intervals. Mumbai Indians are on course to achieve an unprecedented hat-trick when it comes to IPL titles. Mumbai Indians can hit the IPL for a six this time in 2021.

A brilliant head-to-head record against all teams, match-winners from number one to number seven, the best bowler in the world backed by the best left-arm bowler currently make Mumbai Indians a total package. It should come as no surprise that they are the most dangerous team in the history of the IPL.
