IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Shikhar Dhawan Goes to Punjab Kings for Rs 8.25 Crore, R Ashwin to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 5 Crore

Shikhar Dhawan went to PBKS for ₹8.25 crore as he became the first player to be bought in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction that began on Saturday.

Shikhar Dhawan was the first player to be bought in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. With a base price of Rs 2 crore, there were bids from Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. In the end, Shikhar Dhawan was bought for Rs 8.25 crore by Punjab Kings. The next player who was bought by R Ashwin. Ashwin was sold for Rs 5 Crore to Rajasthan Royals. There was an intense bidding war between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. Dhawan, who was released by the Delhi Capitals after the end of the IPL 2021 edition, had a decent amount of bidding. A total of 217 slots will be filled, with 600 players up for grabs.

The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is a big event as new players might go into new teams. A new chapter is beginning for many of the sides. Although most of the franchises have retained their core star players like Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli, the rest of the players will either be going to their old teams or they will be bid by new ones.

Total Revamp in IPL 2022

Auction. Punjab Kings have 72 crores with them while Sunrisers Hyderabad has Rs 68 crores as their purse. Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Mumbai Indians have an identical purse of Rs 48 crores. Delhi Capitals have the least with Rs 47.5 crores. The likes of Joe Root, Mitchell Starc, and Ben Stokes are giving the IPL 2022 a miss as they want to focus on Test cricket. But, the biggest surprise is the omission of Chris Gayle from the IPL 2022 Auction List. This is an indication that the greatest batsman in the history of T20s is probably in the sunset of his career.

Total Player Break-up in IPL 2022

A total of 102 players are in the range of Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore. A total of 48 players are in the base price of Rs 2 crore while 34 players are in the Rs 1 crore base price bracket. 20 players are in the Rs 1.5 crore base price range. Initially, it was reported that 590 players will go under the hammer. Now, according to an ESPNCricinfo report, there will be a total of 600 players. The reason – 10 players including Under-19 World Cup stars have been added. This includes seven Indian players and three Australian players. All of them are in the Rs 20 lakh base price category. These include Agnivesh Ayachi, Hardik Tamore, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mihir Hirwani, Monu Kumar, Rohan Rana, Sairaj Patil. The three Australians are Aaron Hardie, Lance Morris, Nivethan Radhakrishnan in the revised list.
