Sai Sudharsan's mother travels 500km to watch him bat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy

Usha Bharadwaj travelled 500 kilometres from Chennai to Chhattisgarh, Alur to support his son in Vijay Hazare Trophy where he scored his first century.

Gujarat Titans number three and Tamil Nadu opener, Sai Sudharsan played a scintillating knock 62* against the Delhi Capitals on Tuesday to secure the player of the match. The youngster has gone from strength to strength after announcing himself to the world in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). As a 19-year-old, he turned a lot of heads with some eye-catching knocks in the TNPL and a number of cricket scouts started following his career closely.

Sai Sudharsan’s family

Sudarshan comes from the background of a sports family. His father, Bharadwaj R was an international athlete who represented India at SAF games in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His mother, Usha Bharadwaj has also represented her state team in volleyball and both have done exceptionally well in their careers. Sai Sudharsan’s mother Usha Bharadwaj travelled 500 kilometres from Chennai to Chhattisgarh, Alur to support his son in Vijay Hazare Trophy where he scored his first century. She usually is present in most of his games following his progress closely. The Vijay Hazare Trophy was played from the 12th of November to the 2nd of December 2022.

As quoted by cricinfo, Usha Bharadwaj says “The way he [Sudharsan] has been working hard, this century was just a matter of time. He may have got a three-figure score today, but our conversations will be completely normal. We speak to him more on days when he fails to perform. I am very happy because I have been looking forward to scoring a century for a long time.”

Sudharsan’s rise to fame

Sai Sudharsan was a part of the Tamil Nadu squad in the 2021 edition of the SMAT that won the finals against Karnataka. Sudarshan was bagged by the Gujarat Titans franchise during the mega-auctions of the Indian Premier League 2022, at his base price of INR 20 lakhs and hasn’t looked back since then. He played a major role in the title victory of Gujrat Titans’ in the IPL 2022 season. The elegant left-hand batter has cemented his place in the team and has become a valuable member of this strong Gujarat Titans unit.
