Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise stepped up to do their bit as India fights the second wave of COVID-19. In a press release, RCB has joined hands with Give India Foundation to provide 100 units of oxygen concentrators. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s parent company, Diageo India has manufactured and distributed Rs 3 lakh litres of sanitisers. Karnataka is witnessing a massive surge in cases as India records close to 4 lakh cases every day. Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are facing a massive surge in cases. In addition, the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise will be donning a blue jersey instead of the Green jersey.

Traditionally, Royal Challengers Bangalore have won a green jersey as part of their Go Green initiative. In view of the coronavirus pandemic, Virat Kohli’s team will sport a PPE-colored special blue jersey. The jersey will have key messages to spread awareness. After the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore will auction the blue jerseys to raise money. Fankind, a fundraising platform, will be conducting the auctions.

‘Tough time for the country’

In a video message, skipper Virat Kohli said, “It is only because of the frontline heroes that we are saving humanity. We salute them and like to take the opportunity to spread as much awareness for people to follow the safety protocols. We would do every part that helps fight the battle.

The IPL teams have all done their bit to support the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Rajasthan Royals announced a contribution of Rs 7.5 crores (USD 1 million) to help in providing aid to people. Mumbai Indians all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya pledged to donate 200 oxygen concentrators to the rural parts of India.

Hardik said that his family members have made the decision to meet the needs of the rural parts of the country. The Mumbai Indians all-rounder also expressed gratitude to the medical staff and frontline workers for doing the noble work in these difficult times.

“We all understand the difficulty that our country is undergoing at this period of time. Gratitude to all the medical staff, frontline workers and all the individuals who have come out and held their hands at such times to fight out the battle,” Hardik said.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ Pat Cummins was the first cricketer to donate to the PM Cares Funds during the second wave. Brett Lee, Shikhar Dhawan and Sachin Tendulkar have also expressed their support.
