Australia won the third and final Test against Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday to clinch the series 1-0. The hosts were given a target of 351 runs but veteran Australia spinner Nathan Lyon weaved his magic to pick his 19th five-wicket haul to bundle out Pakistan for 235 runs in the final session of the fifth day.

Lyon ran through the Pakistan top-order batter — Imam-ul-Haq (70), Azhar Ali (17), captain Babar Azam (55) — before removing Hasan Ali (13) and Shaheen Afridi (5) to sink the Pakistan ship.

However, one of the most hilarious moments of the match was created by gutsy Australia opener David Warner, as he mimicked Hasan Ali’s trademark celebration after he was castled by an unanticipated length of a delivery bowled by Lyon.

Australia captain Pat Cummins believes Pakistan played ‘competitive cricket’

Australia captain Pat Cummins said it was really competitive cricket and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam also agreed with his views. Azam, further, highlighted that the hosts fought till the end in the home series but two bad sessions took away the match from them.

“In the first innings the way we batted, the way we put ourselves in front was fantastic. Thought if we bowled to our potential it was enough. Was kind of weird that the trend of the game was that the first couple of wickets were hard to get, once it got 30-40 overs old,” Cummins said.

“Swepson probably didn’t get the just rewards, was an important member of our bowling group. We’ve been so well received here. Didn’t know what to expect here but it has been an amazing experience. Been a lot of fun. Competitive cricket. In a lot of way, it’s been more important than just the result,” he added.

“Pretty good series overall. Fought hard in Pindi, saved the match in Karachi. Here, we had two bad sessions. Our plan was to play normal cricket. Thought we would go for the chase if momentum was on our side. Want to thank Australia for coming here. The crowd supported both teams. Had a lot of fun,” Azam said.
