Hailing from the volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, Shaheen Shah Afridi is one of the most promising cricketers currently in the Pakistan team. Having been born in the 21st century and playing for Pakistan represents a rare feat. For a nation that generally rewards late bloomers to a majority, Shaheen Afridi is an exception to the norm. When he took 8/39 on debut in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy, the public were already warming up to his skills.
In his international career, Shaheen Afridi has experienced the extremes of joy and sorrow. His spell against India in the ICC World T20 2021, in which he ripped out Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul cheaply, was a sight for the ages. Shaheen Shah Afridi International Debut
Shaheen Afridi made his Test debut against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi in 2018. His ODI debut was also at the same venue in the same year but against Afghanistan. His T20I debut came at home against the West Indies in Karachi.
Shaheen Shah Afridi currently is captaining the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League T20. Since he is from Pakistan, he cannot play in the Indian Premier League. Apart from the PSL T20, he has played in the Bangladesh Premier League for Dhaka Dynamites.
Shaheen Afridi made good strides in international cricket in 2018 but it was in 2019 where he flourished. During the 2019 ICC World Cup match against Bangladesh at Lord’s, Shaheen Afridi picked up the best figures by a Pakistan bowler in World Cup history. During the 2021 series against the West Indies, he was the main reason for Pakistan securing a 1-1 draw against the Windies in the Caribbean. There were other spells of brilliant bowling against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. But, in the ICC World T20 2021, he blew India away with a magnificent spell of bowling.
