With Kane Williamson out of the team, they need to hunt for a new captain. These are some potential candidates who could lead SRH in IPL 2023.
After finishing eighth in the league last season, the Sunrisers decided to release their captain Kane Williamson ahead of the mini-auction who could only manage to score 216 runs throughout the season with a terrible strike rate of 93. Though they managed to win six matches out of 14, their batting didn’t look settled. With Kane Williamson out of the team, they need to hunt for a new captain. These are some potential candidates who could lead SRH in IPL 2023.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been a regular SRH player for a long time, he knows the franchise inside out. Having led them in six matches of IPL 2019, Bhuvi knows what it takes to captain an IPL side, he also has the most appearances for the SRH with 115 matches. The right-hand pacer won only two of the six matches in his captaincy stint and it also affected his own bowling performance. SRH is a side full of youngsters who still don’t have enough experience to lead a team, hence Bhuvneshwar would probably be their best option at the moment.
Markram has a decent season with SRH in 2022, he contributed consistently with both bat and the ball. With not a lot of options for the SRH team management, Markram could be the fix to the captaincy issue. Markram has previously led the South Africa national team in absence of Faf du Plessis. He also led the South Africa U-19 in 2014. The Sunrisers could give the leadership role to Markram in the 2023 season of the IPL.
Washington Sundar has been brilliant ever since he made his debut in the IPL. He adds value to the team as a bowling all-rounder. Sundar is very effective in opening the bowling with the new ball. He has 27 IPL wickets from 42 games and is a regular in the SRH side. Sundar has been the vice-captain for the Tamil Nadu side for a long time but holds very less experience in being the captain. With not a lot of options to choose from, he could well be given the responsibility to lead the side in IPL 2023.
