Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson brushed down his rare failure with the bat after their win over Delhi Capitals in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match on Saturday, April 8 in Guwahati. Samson said that he is pretty clear about his plans with the bat in their power-packed batting lineup.

However, Sanju Samson got out for a 4-ball duck while trying to hit Delhi Capitals spinner Kuldeep Yadav for a big one in the 11th over of IPL 2023. He was trying to make sure the momentum stayed intact after a 98-run opening partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler that came in just 51 balls as well.

However, following the wicket of Samson, Rajasthan Royals’ scoring rate dipped as well as they added just 28 runs in 5.2 overs after the first wicket as well. While Buttler smashed a 51-ball 79 and Shimron Hetmyer hit a 21-ball 39 before young Dhruv Jurel scored 8 from 3 balls to help the side put up 199 on the board in their allotted 20 overs. Notably, Sanju Samson’s duck in the IPL 2023 came after the high scores of 55 and 42 in Rajasthan’s first two matches as well.

“The way I play the format, I do take a few balls to settle in, but mainly it is just to go out and express myself and get those 40-50 runs at a high strike rate, with Jos doing the other role of taking the innings deep. The roles are very clear. If we do those roles, it is very normal to get few dismissals like this but I’ll try to keep going,” Sanju Samson said.

However, Rajasthan Royals registered a comfortable 57-run win as Delhi Capitals faced their third successive defeat. David Warner scored a fifty but his 65 came off 55 balls after two back-to-back failures at the top from Impact Players Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey as well. Trent Boult picked up 2 wickets in the first over after which R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal shared 5 wickets between them as well.

However, Sanju Samson heaped praise on his two spinners for stepping up with the ball in the second innings as Delhi Capitals were restricted to 142 for 9 in 20 overs as well.

“He (Ashwin) reads the batters very well. He is always looking at the batters and getting the hints. They had a lot of left-handers and bowling Ash bhai a few overs were crucial,” Sanju Samson concluded.

However, Rajasthan Royals will next take on Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on Wednesday.

On the other hand, David Warner credited Trent Boult for his stunning spell. He also added that a good start is needed to chase 200 runs as well.

He said: “When you are chasing 200, you need to start well. Can’t take the credit away from Trent Boult. He was really good. It is just about executing your skills. We had a couple of chop ons last evening. We are professionals. We need to work it out. It is frustrating to hit to the fielders. One of our strike bowlers went down as well. Just didn’t go to plan.”
