There are big developments in the Ahmedabad IPL team as it gears up to participate in IPL 2022. BCCI has reportedly given a clean chit to CVC Capital, the owners of the Ahmedabad IPL team for 2022. According to media reports, the BCCI had earlier expressed concern that CVC Capital was linked to some off-shore betting sites. However, that has now been cleared. CVC Capital had acquired the Ahmedabad franchise for Rs 5625 crore. On the other hand, the Lucknow franchise was acquired by the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group for Rs 7080 crores. The names of the two franchises have not been decided.

With the clearance given by the BCCI to CVC Capital, Ahmedabad can now participate in IPL 2022. The mega auction is on February 12 and 13. The venue has not been decided as India grapples with a new wave of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. With the backroom development now sorted, Ahmedabad will now be gunning for new players in the auction.

The focus will now shift to the players that Ahmedabad may want to acquire. The deadline for submitting the player draft is January 31. After that, the list will be watered down for the two-day mega auction.

Big players in the sight of Ahmedabad IPL franchise?

The Ahmedabad team might be gunning for big players in the IPL 2022 mega-auction. KL Rahul might be one of the big names, having left Punjab Kings after spending a couple of years with them. Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan, two major names in the Mumbai Indians camp, were also not retained by the five-time champions. There are reports that Hardik Pandya might be handed the captaincy of the Ahmedabad team.

David Warner and Rashid Khan were not retained by the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. Warner’s treatment in the last stages of IPL 2021 might make him a massive target for the Ahmedabad team. With Rashid Khan also not retained, the chances of him making a new franchise are now big. Shreyas Iyer, who was the captain of the Delhi Capitals franchise, was also not retained, making him another potential for the Ahmedabad franchise.

The coaching staff are also reportedly locked in. It is believed that Ashish Nehra could be the coach of the Ahmedabad side. Gary Kirsten, who helped India win the 2011 World Cup, could be the mentor of the team. Vikram Solanki, the former England opening batsman, is being tipped as a favorite to be the Team Director. However, none of these are officially confirmed.
