The BCCI confirmed on Saturday that the remainder of the IPL 2021 matches will be played in UAE. The Indian Premier League was postponed due to a rise in coronavirus cases in the bio-bubbles. But there is now a timeline in place for the completion of the tournament. If the matches were not played out, the board were set for massive financial losses this year.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced to complete the remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year,” a statement from BCCI secretary Jay Shah read.

“The decision was taken at a Special General Meeting (SGM) held virtually, where members unanimously agreed to resume IPL.”

However, there remains some doubt over the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The board’s statement said they will seek more time from the ICC to take a decision on the same.

IPL 2021 sorted, but what of T20 World Cup?

“The BCCI SGM further authorised the Office Bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.”

The T20 World Cup is set to take place in October this year. However, the schedule for the same is yet to be finalised. Thus, there’s a month long window in which to complete the remaining 31 IPL 2021 matches.

Yet the future of the ICC tournament is unclear as ever. Previous reports have suggested the ICC will seek a neutral venue for the tournament.

Another key aspect not discussed in the special general meeting is the payment of domestic players. A Cricbuzz report said the matter was brought up by one association.

However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said the matter is not on the meeting agenda. Thus, it will not be discussed in the meeting.
