The India cricket team suffered a big blow ahead of the three-match Twenty20 International series against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar have been ruled out of the entire series due to injuries. Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in the third match against West Indies in Kolkata. On the other hand, Chahar was ruled out after suffering a right quadriceps injury. Both players will now go to the NCA (National Cricket Academy) for rehabilitation. Incidentally, Suraykumar Yadav was the Man of the Series in the recently-concluded West Indies series.

An official release from the BCCI confirmed that both players had gone to Bangalore and will miss the entire series. Thus, this will give the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad the chance to play the entire series. Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur are rested for the T20I series.

BCCI Apparently Building Up A Mega Pool

The Indian cricket team will have a hectic schedule in 2022. After the end of the Sri Lanka Test on March 16, the Indian cricket team player will play the IPL 2022. That will begin on March 26-27 and will continue for two months. After the end of the IPL, India will host South Africa for five Twenty20 Internationals before heading to England again.

India will play the remaining Test which was rescheduled due to the coronavirus. In addition, they will play three ODIs and Twenty20 Internationals. At the same time, they are also going to play a one-off T20I against Ireland. This means that simultaneously, two teams will play at the same time. There is also a tour to Zimbabwe and India might field a depleted side. This development has forced the BCCI to probably field a big mega pool of 35 players.

Speaking to the Times of India, a BCCI official spoke about the need for bio-bubble breaks and the requirement of a big pool. “The discussions on bio-bubble breaks have already started. Every player has been communicated about the busy itinerary. They have been given time to think about when they would like to take a break. It’s likely a depleted side will travel to Zimbabwe. Ideally, the Asia Cup will be the right tournament to play the first team, in order to get combinations right before the T20 World Cup,” a BCCI official stated.

India will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka on February 24 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. After this, they will play two T20Is in Dharamshala. The Tests will take place in Mohali and Bangalore. The Bangalore Test will be a day-night Test.
