The Indian cricket team‘s historic victory in the first Test in Centurion has evoked widespread praise across the country. On the final day of the opening Test, Team India became the first Asian team to win a Test match in Centurion. Virat Kohli-led side defeated South Africa by 113 runs to take an impressive 1-0 series lead. The final day began with the visitors requiring six wickets to win, while hosts needed 211 runs to lead the series. The momentum was on India’s side after Jasprit Bumrah had blown the game wide open towards the closing stages of Day 4. Bumrah had removed Rassie van der Dussen and Keshav Maharaj in the final over of the day to already dent South Africa’s chances of an unlikely win.

Dean Elgar began the final day alongside Temba Bavuma on a solid note. But, just as the drinks break was approaching, Bumrah got the massive wicket of Elgar as he trapped the South African skipper in front. That wicket opened the floodgates. Still, a long way away from the target of 305, South Africa’s resistance was eventually broken. The home side were bowled out for 191 just after lunch in their second innings on the fifth and final day of the first Test. In the aftermath of the historic win, cricket enthusiasts took to social media to congratulate Virat Kohli and his team.
