Kieron Pollard-led West Indies faced yet another loss against India in the second Twenty20 Internationals in Kolkata. With this, they lost the three-match T20I series as well. West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first and they found early success with the dismissal of Ishan Kishan.

However, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli steadied the ship where the latter scored a fifty. While Suryakumar Yadav failed to contribute much, Rishabh Pant smashed a half-century. Along with him, Venkatesh Iyer also smacked a quickfire 33 off 18 and post a total of 186 in 20 overs.

While chasing, West Indies got off to a steady start before Kyle Mayers got out for 9. However, it was Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell who started to take the charge and punish the Indian bowlers. While the former smashed 62 off 41 with 5 fours and 3 sixes, the latter hit a blitzy 68 off 36 with 4 fours and 5 sixes as well. But Pooran’s dismissal put a brake on the momentum. While Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten at 3 only, they eventually lost the game by 8 runs.

“He was phenomenal today” – Kieron Pollard on Rovman Powell

After the win, India speedster Bhuvneshwar Kumar said: “I was just believing in myself, Rohit told me that if I can give just 9-10 runs it will be difficult for them, so I just backed myself with the yorkers. There was a bit of dew, but I still backed myself and it came out well. He (Powell) was hitting it pretty hard, probably 200kmph (chuckles). It’s always tough to bowl yorkers with the dew. When we bowled the slower balls it wasn’t gripping and I changed my plan not to bowl slower balls, so it totally depends on the wicket. These guys are very powerful and if you bowl in their zone and it gets difficult. (The body)Feels good and don’t want to say anything on that.”

After the defeat, Kieron Pollard shared: “He (Powell) was phenomenal today. His partnership with Pooran almost got us over the line. We did well to take it as deep as we can. We can look at different ways as to how we could have gotten those 8 runs. At the end of it, we can look at so many ways. He (Chase) has bowled well. He came in and showed us something. Again he delivered for us. We can’t just call batters out. Was a very good game. We sort of rectified our mistakes from the previous games.”
