IND vs ENG, 3rd Test: Rohit Sharma's century highlights India's resilience on Day 1 in Rajkot

India won the toss and elected to bat on the 1st day of the 3rd Test match between India and England at Rajkot. India introduced two debutants, Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel, while England made a single change, with Mark Wood replacing Shoaib Bashir. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had scored a double century in the previous Test, fell early in his innings to Mark Wood, who drew first blood. Shubman Gill, grappling with inconsistent form, departed without scoring, courtesy of another impressive spell by Wood.

Rajat Patidar also struggled, falling prey to Hartley, leaving India in a precarious situation with three of their top-four batsmen dismissed within the first 45 minutes. Rohit Sharma, initially struggling, found support from the returning Ravindra Jadeja. The duo turned the tide, frustrating the English bowlers in the second session. Rohit reached his half-century and shifted the pressure back onto England.

At lunch on Day 1, India was 93/3 after 25 overs, with Rohit at 52* and Jadeja at 24*. The partnership between the two continued to flourish in the second session, reaching 100 runs. Jadeja celebrated his fifty with his trademark sword-swirl.

Before tea, the Rohit-Jadeja partnership reached 150 runs, with Jadeja smashing a six to bring up the milestone. At tea, India was at 185/3 after 52 overs, with Rohit at 97* and Jadeja at 68*.

Rohit Sharma went on to complete his 11th Test century, and the partnership with Jadeja surpassed 200 runs. Mark Wood, utilizing the short ball, dismissed Rohit for 131, breaking the partnership.

Debutant Sarfaraz Khan played positively, scoring his maiden Test fifty off just 48 balls. He formed a 50-run partnership with Jadeja, who went on to complete his fourth Test century.

A mix-up in the middle led to Sarfaraz getting run out for 62. Kuldeep Yadav was sent in as a nightwatchman. At stumps on Day 1, India was at 326/5 after 86 overs.
