“It is miraculous” says former Indian opener, Akash Chopra on Rishabh Pant’s recovery from a fatal car crash. Aakash Chopra shared his thoughts on Rishabh Pant’s recovery, expressing amazement at the wicketkeeper-batter’s resilience. Chopra, speaking on his official YouTube channel, revealed that reports are suggesting Pant’s participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for the Delhi Capitals (DC), describing it as a phenomenal development.

The 46-year-old emphasized the miraculous nature of Pant’s comeback, especially considering the multiple injuries he endured in a vehicle accident at the end of 2022. Despite cricket being a small part of life, Chopra expressed happiness at Pant’s survival, acknowledging the challenges he would have faced during his recovery journey. Chopra also predicted that the Pant would play a dual role as a batsman and captain for the Delhi-based franchise in the upcoming IPL season. He highlighted Pant’s ability to address a crucial issue for the Delhi Capitals by batting slightly down the order, given the top-order dominance of their key players.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided a fitness update on Pant in July, stating that he had resumed batting and keeping in the nets, showing significant progress in rehabilitation.

Since joining DC in 2016, Pant has accumulated 2,838 runs in 98 matches, boasting an average of 34.61 and a strike rate exceeding 147, with a century and 15 half-centuries to his credit.

“Cricket is a very small part of life. It’s very important but cricket is there only if there is life. The sort of accident it was, I was just happy that he was alive. I am pretty sure he would have had to work very hard during the journey from there to here because it’s difficult and extremely lonely as well,” he added.

“He will bat and captain. With batting, he solves an extremely important problem for the Delhi Capitals because he can bat slightly down the order as, unfortunately, all their good players are top-order batters,” he further added.
