The second one-day international (ODI) of the Australia Women’s Tour of Ireland will be played at Castle Avenue in Dublin on July 25. The first ODI on July 23 has been abandoned due to rain. However, Ireland Women didn’t have a good show in recent times. They’ve lost four of their last five games. On the other hand, the Australian Women too didn’t have a great series against England where they won three of their last five games and will try to perform well.
However, in their most recent match, Ireland Women played against West Indies Women where after winning the toss and deciding to bat, Ireland got off to a good start. Gaby Lewis helped Ireland to reach a good total of 203 runs. Meanwhile, West Indies also lost quick wickets but some solid partnerships helped them to keep going in the game as well. And, an unbroken fifth-wicket partnership of 110 runs helped them win as well.
On the other hand, Australia Women last faced England Women where in their last match, they elected to the field first and picked up two wickets for just 12 runs. But, Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the ship and helped England Women to post 285 runs. Australia had a poor start, but a solid partnership for the third wicket helped them to recover in the middle. But, after their dismissal, they continued losing wickets in between, which helped England to win by 69 runs in the end as well. But due to their defeat in the one-off Test and the T20I series, Australia managed to retain the Ashes as the series ended in a draw as well.
The pitch at Castle Avenue offers help to batters. Players may play strokes freely whereas the bowlers need to bowl with good line and accurate length to stop the run flow. Teams who win the toss may elect to bat first as well. Meanwhile, playing conditions will be good as there is no chance of rain. Temperatures will be around the 15-degree Celsius mark as well.
