India’s Kiran George produced a gritty show, notching up two narrow wins in the men’s singles qualifying round to make it to the main draw of the Indonesia Masters Super 500 badminton tournament here on Tuesday. Kiran George, hailing from Kochi, India, put up a strong performance at the Indonesia Masters Super 500 badminton tournament.

After winning two challenging matches in the men’s singles qualifiers, he advanced to the main tournament. The 23-year-old, who has won two Super 100 titles at the Odisha Open in 2022 and the Denmark Masters in 2023, displayed strong determination. He emerged victorious in two challenging contests.

The initial match was opposed to Shesar Hiren Rhustavito of Indonesia, ending with scores of 21-17, 12-21, 21-15. He defeated Alex Lanier of France with sets of 12-21, 21-18, 22-20. In his match against Rhustavito, Kiran started slow and had to overcome an early 0-3 lag. However, he caught up and surged ahead by taking six consecutive points and won the first game.

Despite Rhustavito getting a good lead in the second game, Kiran pulled himself together in the final game, quickly scoring five points in a row to move ahead. Later that day, Kiran faced a tough start again, trailing 0-7, and dropped the first game against Lanier. Yet, he regained control and edged out an 8-5 lead in the second game.

The game was close, but Kiran managed to win it. The third game was even, with leads changing back and forth until Kiran pushed ahead, moving from a trailing position at 14-15 to a leading 19-16. Finally, he clinched the match, showing great tenacity and skill under pressure.
