The Wizz Air Cardiff Half Marathon is the UK’s second largest half marathon and Wales’ largest multi-charity fundraising event. The race is a member of the SuperHalfs, which also includes half-marathons in Lisbon, Prague, Copenhagen and Valencia and has been awarded a Gold Road Race Label by World Athletics. It was founded by Barnardo’s in 2003 when 1,500 participants registered for the inaugural edition.

Currently, there is an expectancy of 27,500 registered runners across three categories – men’s, women’s and wheelchair elite races. The venue also hosts the Welsh Half Marathon Championships annually alongside the World (2016) and Commonwealth (2018) Half Marathon Championships. It is also a member of AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races). The race has been sponsored by Wizz Air since 2022, which supports a large number of charities.

Wizz Air Cardiff Half Marathon 2022: Schedule

The Wizz Air Cardiff Half Marathon will commence on Castle Street from 10:00am on Sunday 2 October, with the elite wheelchair race beginning at 09:50am.The race has a staggered start to ensure all runners cross the start line as safely as possible.

The white, green and red start is at 10:00 (pens open at 09:15) and the blue and yellow start is at 10:10 (pens open at 09:40). The event carries a 4.5 hour cut off time, to ensure roads can safely re-open within to prevent traffic in the city.
