Erriyon Knighton is an American sprinter specializing in the 100 and 200 meters. The young American has established a name for himself in US athletics, breaking records at the age of just 17 years old. He twice defeated the current World Champion Noah Lyles in the US Olympic Trials, solidifying his place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Knighton ran a time of 20.02 seconds to advance to the 200-meter finals at the Tokyo Olympics, where he competed for the gold medal. He also made history by becoming the US’s youngest Olympic track athlete.

As a freshman at Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Florida, Erriyon Knighton began competing in track and field in 2019. In the final of the 2020 USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in Satellite Beach, Florida, he ran the second-fastest time over 200 meters for a competitor under the age of 18 in history. He was a wide receiver for Hillsborough’s football team as well. Rated a four-star recruit by 247Sports.com, he received scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, and other universities.

At the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge on April 30, Knighton set an unofficial world junior record in the 200 meters by finishing in 19:49 seconds. At the USA Outdoor T&F Championships in June, he earned a score of 19.69. Knighton later went on to become the youngest individual sprint medalist in Championship history when he won the bronze medal in the event at the World Athletics Championships held in Eugene, Oregon, with a time of 19:80 seconds. With his 200m victory on September 2 in Brussels, he also set a new Diamond League record for the youngest winner.

It was also the quickest season opener in history.
