Long-distance runner Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei was born in Uganda on September 12, 1996. He is the current 5000-meter Olympic champion, the 10,000-meter silver medalist, the 2019 World Cross Country champion, and the two-time 10,000-meter World champion (from 2019 and 2022). At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Cheptegei also took home gold medals in the 5000- and 10,000-meter runs. He owns the world record in both of these events and also the record for the 15-kilometer road race.
Cheptegei, who established both world records in 2020 for the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, is the tenth man in history to do so. In the 15 km, Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei established a world record in 2018.
