Indian High jumper Tejaswin Shankar is getting ready for a year of transformation, both on and off the field of play. The 24-year-old, who spent six years in the United States studying at Kansas State University and working as an auditor at Deloitte, is now moving back to India. Shankar has accomplished a lot while living in the United States, including winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022, winning two NCAA championships, setting the record for the highest leap in the country (2.29 meters), and switching from the high jump to the decathlon.

Although Tejaswin Shankar aspires to compete in the Olympics, including the future Paris 2024 Olympics, he is not the typical Indian elite athlete who is only interested in bringing home gold from large international competitions. Instead, he is constantly searching for new chances, whether it be to attempt something new or find a profession that will complement his sporting career. Despite thinking that adjusting to India could be difficult, Shankar is eager to go back this summer.

Tejaswin Shankar’s future events

Tejaswin Shankar is concentrating on the high jump for the world championships while attempting to compete in the decathlon at the Asian Championships and Asian Games. He also intends to compete in the decathlon at the National Inter-State Championships in Ranchi and the Federation Cup in Bhubaneshwar. He aims to transfer to the decathlon while still competing successfully in his preferred event, the high jump, especially while doing so at the international level. Shankar has participated in a number of high jump ranking meets and plans on competing in three more to raise his world ranking.

What’s next for Shankar?

Tejaswin Shankar will be located at the Inspire Institute of Sport in Bellary and will train remotely with his coach, Cliff Rovelto. He might also seek advice from other experts. Shankar believes that completing numerous activities, similar to a decathlon in real life, is better for him and his mental health. He is aware that balancing training and a 9 to 5 job in India may be difficult, but he is determined to find a solution. While Tejaswin Shankar is enthusiastic about the changes ahead, the Indian high jumper is also reflecting on his time in the United States. He is appreciative of the experiences he has had and the help he has gotten thus far in his journey.
