2018 Commonwealth games bronze medalist and discus thrower Navjeet Kaur Dhillon was handed a three-year ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) after she tested positive for DHCMT, an anabolic–androgenic steroid. The drug was used in the past by East German athletes to enhance their performances. Dhillon was also part of the 2022 CWG squad in Birmingham finishing eighth in the 11-women final.

“Yes, she (Dhillon) has failed dope test conducted by AIU. If you try to cheat, you will get caught. Most likely the test done by AIU must be at Almaty and not in Turkey. She won gold in National Inter-State in mid-June and she must have been tested by NADA there,” the source said.

The ban was reduced by one year from the original four, after Dhillon admitted the anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) and accepted the sanction. India’s Tokyo Olympians Shivpal Singh, Kamalpreet Kaur, Dhanalakshmi Sekar also came into the limelight for the use of substances prohibited by the World Athletics body. Her ban came into effect on August 14 and she will be absent from the team’s participation possibly for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Navjeet’s won the Indian junior title in 2010 and the national youth title in 2011. She won her first international medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011 and soon became only the second Indian to win a medal at the World Junior Athletics.

At the 2013 Asian Athletics Championships, Dhillon competed in both the shot put and the discus for the first time as a senior. Her personal best is 59.18m set in 2018 in Indian Grand Prix in February 2018. Dhillon’s first senior international medal came at the 2018 Commonwealth Games with a distance of 57.43m.
