India’s Manpreet Kaur entered the final of women’s shot put after registering 16.75 meters in the third attempt. She ended up seventh overall and fourth in her group. Jamaica’s Daniel Thomas-Dodd (18.42 m) qualified with a top-place finish. The final of the event will be held at 12:35 am on August 4. Manpreet will aim to put an even stronger performance in the finals.

Earlier this year, Manpreet set a new National record in the women’s shot put, breaching the 18 meters barrier. She threw the ball at a distance of 18.06 m at the Inter-State Athletics Meet in Chennai. She also held the previous record in Women’s shot put (17.96 m). The Ambala-born shot putter represented India in the Rio Olympics 2016. She won the gold for India in Asian Championships 2017 and South Asian Games 2016.

He is India’s prime contender for gold at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Anees (7.68m) too joined his compatriot with an eighth-place finish in the Qualification. The final of the event will take place on August 4. Previously, Rio Olympian Nitendra Rawat finished 12th in the Men’s marathon final with a timing of 2:19:22.
