On Sunday, October 30, 2022, the Auckland Marathon will return in all its splendour and will be held without limitations for the first time since 2019. The annual Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Marathon and Half Marathon is held in Auckland, New Zealand. The event is held each year in October or early November, during the spring season in New Zealand.
The course starts in the North Shore beachfront town of Devonport and passes through Takapuna and Northcote before crossing the Harbour Bridge and finishing at Victoria Park. The full marathon competitors continue eastward via Viaduct Harbour and along Tamaki Drive to the turn-around location at Saint Heliers Bay, while the half marathon competitors finish their race in Victoria Park. The marathon then returns to Victoria Park via Tamaki Drive.
Since New Zealand’s coronavirus management protocols were effective, thousands of runners were able to participate in the race’s 2020 edition, which took place on 1 November 2020. This made it one of the few major marathons held during a period when many other nations were dealing with the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
