The opening twelve minutes of AEW Collision’s first broadcast were dedicated to the return of two-time AEW World Champion CM Punk in front of his hometown fans at Chicago’s United Centre. This was CM Punk’s first AEW televised appearance after winning the AEW World Title for the second time at All Out in September. During his battle with Jon Moxley, Punk tore his triceps and got into a backstage brawl with The Elite’s Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson).

The fans greeted CM Punk with a standing ovation when “Cult of Personality” played in the arena, marking Punk’s first appearance on AEW TV in almost nine months. Punk was wearing wrestling boots around his neck, a t-shirt with his dog Larry on it, and a red bag as he addressed the boisterous audience.

Punk began his promo by claiming he was sick of being polite. Punk mentioned having a torn triceps, which necessitated surgery and kept him out of the ring for the previous 10 months (it was a little more than nine months ago).

CM Punk cuts a babyface promo

It was a babyface promo, with CM Punk praising his supporters for their unwavering support. Punk acknowledged that some individuals dislike him for the same reasons that his admirers like him. Punk stated that his presence makes people uneasy and that the truth is terrible. There was even a brief “F**k the Elite” shout, but Punk ignored it and carried on.

At this point, CM Punk looked into the camera and took a shot at The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson).

“You know what David Zaslav calls me?… ‘One Bill Phil.’ That’s because I am the one true, genuine article in a business of counterfeit Bucks…”

The promo ended with CM Punk mentioning the AEW World Title that was in the red bag he was carrying. The last time we saw Punk, he was holding it above his head. Punk stated that it is his until someone pins him or forces him to surrender.

AEW fans couldn’t hold back as they showers love as CM Punk made his return inside the squares circle. In addition, CM Punk won his rematch in the main event of the first “AEW Collision.” In trios action, Punk and FTR defeated “Switchblade” Jay White, Juice Robinson, and Samoa Joe. The team known as CMFTR won after Punk hit the GTS on Robinson to get the pin.
